Conversion Modes

Professional VTracer

Uses a local WebAssembly tracing engine to convert the cleaned black-and-white image into compact, smooth SVG curve paths. Processing stays on this device and does not use AI credits.

Best for: production engraving files, detailed line art, logos, silhouettes, and final SVG downloads that must remain smooth when enlarged.

Tradeoff: final-quality tracing can take longer on very large or highly detailed images. The app automatically uses its built-in curve tracer if WebAssembly is unavailable.

High quality curve trace

Converts the PNG into a clean black/white mask, smooths stair-step edges, removes small artifacts, simplifies the outline, and exports fitted SVG curve paths instead of pixel blocks.

Best for: final galvo engraving SVGs, logos, silhouettes, text, AI-generated black/white artwork, and anything that looked jagged when zoomed in.

Tradeoff: it is intentionally black and white only. It may soften tiny jagged details so the result engraves cleaner.

Photo to line art

Turns color PNGs and photos into high-contrast black line art by converting to grayscale, boosting contrast, detecting image edges, thickening the detected lines, cleaning small artifacts, and tracing those lines as SVG paths.

Best for: photo-style engraving, portraits, product images, and full-color artwork that needs to become mark/no-mark black line art.

Tradeoff: it creates line art, not shaded halftone engraving. Tune Photo contrast and Edge sensitivity before adjusting path smoothing.

Smooth black/white trace

Converts the PNG into a black/white mask, traces the outer contours, simplifies the paths, and optionally rounds the corners. This produces smoother laser-ready vector boundaries than pixel-block tracing.

Best for: two-color galvo engraving artwork, logos, silhouettes, text, and clean mark/no-mark graphics.

Tradeoff: it intentionally reduces the artwork to solid black vector shapes, so use another mode for full-color art.

Color contour vector trace

Converts PNG color regions into actual SVG vector shapes. The app reduces the image into a color palette, traces each color region into filled contours, smooths those contours, and writes editable path geometry instead of rectangular pixel blocks.

Best for: low-color graphics, logos, stickers, icons, and color PNG images where preserving several colors matters.

Tradeoff: photos with soft gradients can still create many contour shapes. Reduce the color palette for cleaner output.

Raster SVG wrapper

Wraps the PNG inside an SVG file without tracing it into editable vector paths. It preserves the original raster image appearance as closely as possible.

Best for: preserving exact visual appearance, previewing DPI and physical sizing, or using software that accepts raster content inside SVG.

Tradeoff: it is still a PNG inside an SVG container, so it is not true vector geometry for cutting or path-based engraving.

Laser engraving recommendation

Use Photo to line art for color photos, and Professional VTracer for clean two-color logos, silhouettes, AI-generated engraving images, and final SVG downloads. Keep Output DPI between 254 and 300, then tune threshold, simplification, corner smoothing, and vector quality.

How AI PNG Optimization Works

No prompt is required

The optimizer uses a built-in Core-X instruction set. It asks AI to preserve the main subject and composition while rebuilding the image as high-contrast black-and-white engraving artwork with cleaner outlines, fewer speckles, stronger negative space, and trace-friendly detail.

What is sent to AI

The currently loaded PNG is sent to Core-X AI Studio's secure image service together with its original aspect ratio. No saved prompts, SVG output, or unrelated account files are included.

Credit use: one successful optimization uses one AI image credit. Opening this help window or canceling the confirmation does not use a credit.

Image size and proportions

AI creates a new PNG using the closest supported output dimensions while preserving the uploaded image's aspect ratio as closely as the model allows. It does not retain the original pixel dimensions, DPI metadata, or exact physical width and height.

After the optimized PNG is returned, it replaces the current converter input. Your DPI, physical-size, threshold, smoothing, speck-removal, and VTracer settings are then applied during SVG conversion.

Before spending a credit

Use this when the source needs artistic cleanup, stronger black-and-white separation, or simplified engraving detail. Skip it for an already-clean logo, silhouette, or line drawing and use Professional VTracer directly. AI may redraw small details, lettering, faces, logos, or exact geometry, so inspect the returned PNG before tracing it.
